Its important to find a reiki teacher that fits. There should be a click, like an acknowledgement that you know you can work well together and both learn from one another on your Reiki journey.
Hi, my name is Angela and I am 30 years old. I had a few tough times growing up as I was diagnosed with scoliosis at the age of four and a neurological condition called CMT at the age of 12. After many surgeries on my spine that were unsuccessful I was left with chronic back pain as well as painful symptons such as muscle spasms from my muscle condition. However through support from my wonderful family I just got on with life and became a happy, confident individual. I graduated from Derby University with a BA (Hons) in Arts Therapies specialising in Dramatherapy and later settled in Derby but I was born and raised in Leigh, Lancashire.
I started my psychic development at the age of nineteen through a young lady called Gaynor who later became a good friend and a Reiki student of mine! At the age of 20 I had my first experience of Reiki at a healing fayre. I had never even heard of Reiki before but was willing to give it a try. I was amazed as I sat in a chair and Sue gently placed her hands on my head. My whole body started twitching. After 10 minutes when she had finished I felt very relaxed and asked her why I had twitched so. She said it may have been my body or my energies trying to align. Well that made sense to me seeing that my spine is shaped like a letter S. I liked Sue and went away feeling that I would possibly do My Reiki Level One training. Sue had mentioned how Reiki was a healing energy and could help with pain.
Within 3 months of doing My Usui Reiki Level One Course I had come off my pain medication. It was incredible how pain free I was for the first time in years. I felt really empowered that here I had a tool that I could use on myself anytime anyplace that could make me feel well. Therefore I went on to practise Reiki professionally with advice and encouragement from my Reiki teacher Sue. Soon I went on to do my Reiki Level two, followed by Master Healer Level and then I did my Universal Karuna Reiki Mastership. At that time I wasn't interested in teaching Reiki as I felt I needed much more experience with Reiki on myself and my clients. At 23 I opened my own Healing Centre in Leigh. It made sense as I was practising Reiki in another clinic and also working with charities like Mencap and the local council doing drama and art therapy sessions with groups of disabled clients. Having the centre also allowed me to study and practise my other passions more such as crystal healing, shamanic healing and feng shui. I also did my teacher level in Usui Reiki and Universal Karuna Reiki at this point as I felt ready to teach. The more classes I taught the more my passion for teaching Reiki grew as I saw how my students were becoming empowered in their own healing just as I had done.
At the age of 25 I got married and closed the centre when I moved to Derby. Here I did my Seichem and Sekhem Master/Teacher training. I carried on teaching until I took a year off in '05 and '06 while I had a baby. The pregnancy was high risk due to my disabilities but I believe the Reiki alongside other complementary therapies kept me in good health (as well as being looked after by my angels!). The doctors were surprised to see how well I was doing and I had a healthy baby boy six weeks early. Then my healing began as I had to work on the damage I had done to my muscles through the pregnancy. I started to feel like myself again in August 06 and so decided at that point I would start to do the Reiki training again. I feel that Reiki has enriched my life tremendously. Its allowed me to heal parts of myself on all levels that I may never have thought possible. I believe it contributed greatly in the health of my son and its allowed me to pass the gift of Reiki to loved ones. For that I am truly grateful.
It is believed that my son has not inherited the CMT gene although doctors will continue to monitor him. My angels had told me when I was pregnant that my son would not be affected so I always felt that he would be fine. As I worked with the angels closely through my pregnancy I have now began to teach angel workshops as I have beeen channelling healing methods from the angels. Also due to requests from my Reiki students I have now began to teach crystal and shamanic workshops as well.
I have started training to become a petaltone practitioner and in March 08 will begin training in Master Energy Colour Healing. As a family we have appeared in Take a Break magazine and on BBC Radio Derby to talk about the challenges of having a baby as disabled parents. I have also appeared on BBC Radio Derby talking about Reiki.
